Temperature signs for hot and cold If your home or business has suffered winter storm damage SERVPRO is here to help 24/7 and is faster to any size disaster!

The official first day of winter is Dec. 21 this year, but what winter looks like varies drastically based on where you live. Here in Georgia, we slip into winter almost indifferent from fall, as the temperature only drops a few degrees.

Regardless of where you live, winter has its own threats and risks that bring damage to our properties, potentially leaving our family members exposed to the elements.

The good news is that understanding the potential risks this season brings can allow you to prepare your home the right way, keeping your family safer.

Winter Around the Nation

Mild, wet, shivery and snowy are words that describe winter in the United States, especially when the country is split in half.

The upper East Coast and some parts of the Midwest experience temperature drops to extreme lows, bringing heavy snow for much of the season. However, the West Coast sees mild temperatures that cause heavier rainfall as opposed to snow.

Of course, these predictions vary depending on certain regions, but it’s always a good idea to prepare for the worst possible outcome to have the most protection.

Winter Around Marietta

In Georgia, our winter season is a lighter experience than those up north, but we still face challenges like overnight freezing of our pipes and black ice appearing sporadically throughout these months.

In Marietta, we typically see a range of temperatures between 58 and 35 degrees all winter long. This is an ideal range to have fun while staying safe, but we also experience the occasional 24-hour period of sub-freezing temperatures than can wreak havoc on our properties.

Get Prepared

To prepare for the winter season, it’s important to begin by getting familiar with common winter storms. Then, ensure that you can receive weather alerts in multiple ways so you can stay updated.

You should also prepare an emergency kit before winter weather arrives. Think about adding anything your family may need for at least 72 hours of sheltering. If you already have a kit prepared, take some time to verify that everything inside is still applicable for this season.

No matter how cold winter gets, weatherproofing windows and doors can help prevent moisture from seeping inside and may lower your electricity bill. In addition, repair any minor roof damage and keep trees around your home trimmed to help improve your overall safety this winter.

While winter can be an incredible time to hang out with a warm blanket and your loved ones, take time to protect your home. And keep SERVPRO of Marietta West in your emergency contacts because we’re ready 24⁄7 to assist you.

If you experience damage in a winter storm, call or contact us. We have the experience and equipment to get your home back to normal.
